Hazelwood and Churchill (Victoria, Australia) local Girl Guide information noticeboard.

The Guides agree that their tummy goes funny when..

In an article published years ago through the  Guiding in Australia magazine the following concept was put forward.

“I know when I’m feeling unsafe. My palms go sweaty, my tummy feels funny and my knees go wobbly. I feel as though I want to go to the toilet. I say to myself, “I have a right to feel safe and be safe ALL the time.” Nothing is so awful that I can’t tell anyone about it.”

The Guides all agreed that there are times when this occurred to people.  These time included when there was a danger around while walking in the bush, or down a dark street or alley [cause the lights had been destroyed by people throwing rocks at the lights], when people called out rude word, names, and other abuse to them or their friends, When it was time to sit tests and exams, time to get up in front of a class and talk about something they had done or saw.

Learning Whistle signals

Learn / practise whistle signals. Patrols choose their own special signal. Leader uses scatter signal to send patrols searching for tokens hidden round playing area. If one is found, finder stands still until PL notices, signals patrol to assemble before patrol collects token. Whenever leader signals “rally”, first patrol back earns extra token; last patrol forfeits one. Vary with “PL come here”; deduct a token from patrols of any girls who mistake that signal for “rally”.

Family BBQ’s are just for fun

A few years ago the Units held Family get together’s.  This meant that the parents could meat and great each other.  Instead of being so and so’s mum or dad they met someone with a name!

These Family BBQ’s were quite successful for a while.  Being run once every two terms proved better than every term.  So in the middle of the first and third terms a night was chosen and things were arranged.

  • Advocacy, Governance and ownership by all levels of Guiding within this District.
  • No special agenda just good food and friendship.  Not a political evening. But a good way of quietly providing an avenue where parents and friends could be included and of assistance.
  • The Guides who could attend had an increase in their self confidence as their parents and families are important enough to be invited and come to a District function.  The mind set of having parents involved offered a protection around the guides attending.
  • The Guides attending quietly showcased their talents and skills learned through the night.
  • Risk annalysises were completed
  • Hostessed by the District Leader and the District team divided the work load.  Of course offers of help were taken up be they from Guides, the parents or family friends.
  • The District Team got together to divided the jobs.
  • Invites were sent out one month in advance.
  • The RSPA was two weeks before the date set.
  • Parents received reminder notices via face book and twitter as the evening approached..
  • Membership tended to increase as the public interest hightened.

Islam

ISLAM What is Islam?

Islam is a complete way of life based on the teachings of the Holy Quran (which is the
divine word of God) and Hadith which are the recorded teachings and practices of
i                Islam’s final prophet, Mohammad. Anything outside these sources is not Islam.

What does Islam mean?

Islam means peace and total submission and obedience to Allah (God).

What does Allah mean?

The word ALLAH is an Arabic term which means the one and only God who is the ^-/ creator and provider of everything. The word Allah is also the personal name of God. It is a unique term because it does not have a plural and it is neither a male or female term since Allah is genderless. It is therefore a more accurate term to use than the term God.

What Is a Muslim?

A Muslim is a person who believes in the Islamic creed.

What are the five pillars of ISLAM?                                                          What do Muslims believe in?

\^

1.  The first pillar of Islam is the                                                                    1.  The oneness of God (Allah)
declaration of faith.

2.  The angels of Allah

2.  The second pillar of Islam is the

five compulsory daily prayers.                                                                     3.  The books of Allah

3.  The third pillar of Islam is known                                                               4. The messengers of Allah as zakat, which is annual alms.

5.  Predestination

4.  The fourth pillar of Islam is fasting during the month of Ramadan.   6.  Life after death.

5.  The fifth pillar of Islam is the                                                                     7.  The day of resurrection
pilgrimage to the Holy City of
Mecca.                                                                                                                8.  The day of judgement

What is the difference between the teachings of Islam and the practices of some Muslims?

Not every Muslim who claims to be a follower of Islam follows Islam in its pure form. A religion should therefore be judged by its teachings and not by people who claim to be its followers.
