Keeping skipping ropes tidy and safely away.

Our Guides often enjoy the use of a skipping rope rope.  The ropes are often used to tie things together, for a skipping activity, play snakes and other jump activities with while also learning to tie knots with and so on.

When the Guides have finished skipping they are meant to tie the rope up in a double overhand.  This care means that the rope is stored in such a way that when they rush to get the ropes out for the next activity the Guides can go straight into that activity  with out having to spend extra time unravelling the ropes. However the best way of making sure that everyone knows how to tie the ropes in a double overhand, and will enforce the tieing of the ropes up after an activity, is when the ropes are ‘found’ to have been uncared for and stored lazily away run the activity again the next week using the same ropes.  All the Guides must then work to unravel, retie the ropes and store away before the activity will commence.  The Guides soon learn to take a collective time out at the end of the game/ activity just to put the ropes back properly.

Reading about the influence of Girl Guide movement

Once upon a time in a far off land lived five little girls. One girl was a Moslem, another was Buddhist, the third was Jewish, the fourth a Christian and the fifth was a Hindu. The girls were friends but they had to meet in secret because their families distrusted people who had customs different from their own. Their families did not really understand that the girls liked each other and wanted to be friends.

One day news came about an elderly man in a far off country who had started something called Girl Guides, and now a unit was starting in their area. The five girls were very excited because they were able to join Brownie Guides together. They, like guides all over the world today, had different religions and beliefs but were able to meet together in friendship because all Guides existed happily together. -Their families were happy to see the girls together in Guiding because it was a good thing.

As the years passed the girls grew up and were young women when war came to their land. They were very afraid because people with different beliefs were fighting with each other. Our five Guides were very troubled until one of them said “We are different but we are the same. We are sister Guides and we always help one another in times of need.”

And so, our five young women and their families promoted peace in their land and grew to understand and accept each others customs.

The five young girls in this story now have children of their own. Their children play together happily today, all because the Girl Guides came to their land a long time ago.

The white corner on our World Flag shows our commitment to world peace.

Choosing governace

Governance is about having the choice to choose, then knowing what to do with this choice.  All levels of Guiding are shown different processes for the same thing.

The 7 to 9’s are called Dolphin Patrol.  We already have the Koala Patrol for the 10 to 13’s.

We played Hop-Scotch. And we did some more of the Columbia badge.

Some more Guide revieved their sashes and some badges.

There were
Special Badges – 100 year celebration, Jota/Joti,  2 round badges called Build a better World, Discover your Potential.

Some Guides got their Explore: Freiendship badges.

We are nearly finished some others too. They are

Explore: Our World, Life Skills,Guiding, Outdoors, Arts

Some have started their Explore: Faith Awareness and their Explore: Health and Fitness and Science and technology badges.

And we have also begun the :
Challenge Badges: Girls, Rope, Food, Fire, Hands, The Arts.

Theres one called the Bridges over to Argetina and we have started that too.

Salad dressing

2 cloves garlic crushed

1 tsp whole grain mustard

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tsp vinegar ( was recomeneded to have balasamic vinegar but we used what was on hand.)

1 tsp box honey (some one was allegic to honey so out came the brown sugar)

60 ml unsweetened apple juice.

1 tsbp extra virgin oil

Everything went into a whisk and was combined.  Mix was chilled and used on salads.  Makes only about 100mls per mix.  Therefore is an easy recipe for the Guides to learn and pass on.  A great way of using several steps to complete a multi level learning task.

Keep it up

Originally this game came from Communicating September 2002 P 8. Over time several changes have been made.

Keep it Up!** players are in a scattered formation and try to keep a beach ball in the air as long as they can by hitting it before it touches the floor. Each time a player hits the ball, she says something relating to the theme selected. Examples include items in a first aid kit, sporting events, healthy snacks, what to take on a hike, safety hazards etc..

Plan a party and invite your friends.

We planned a Dance at Guides for the end of Term three (2009).

We invited all different people. we had made invitations, and asked them to come too. Our parents asked their parents too.

We had fun, played outside, had cold drinks, lots of food, decorations and music. We also had games to play too.
The CD player was the one at the meeting room. The music was ours, The older girls organised the CD player.

Some of the girls we invited have now joined Guides.
