Global Action Theme is known as GAT

Global Action that has been ”Changing the World’ has been happening through out Girl Guide and Girl Scout programs for over 100 years. Action themes may have occurred on a World Wide basis involving the Regions of Guiding working together through our World Association of Girl guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) right down to just an individual question, action or activity sparking off a patrol activity that may lead to an International activity.  Global Action keeps occurring on a multitude of levels within Guiding.

As the members get older sometimes they move away from Guiding as their career develops or interests evolve, or they may stay within the movement, but the essence of having experienced the GAT is there. Typically Leaders bring into Guide program what they themselves enjoyed as a Youth member as well as what their interests and life skills are now.

The essence of service is still service. Over the years many form of service have been built on.  Different badges have been provided. The Guides have worked towards these with different service awareness and methods utilized.

So how is the GAT so successful? Simple really.  WAGGGS influences to have a voice and to listen.  Then to speak out, look at root causes and do projects.  While this occurs the Guides are learning.  And the life skills and interest circles are quietly going around still into the next generations.

They arrived with a…

C.F.A Come on down to Guides.

When planning 2009 Tuesday program the girls decided to invite the CFA people to Guides. Little knowing that every one here would be so affected by the near by fires over the last two weeks.

Here are some of the pictures of the CFA ladies who came to our Girl Guide meeting today. And we did not scare them off…. so they are coming back too.

Advacy for Brunai with Asia Pacific Region Committee encouragement.

Being a member of Girl Guides you are not only given the opportunity of having a voice but shown how to as well as encouraged to use it.  this happens through out all the levels of Girl Guides.  you may be new, or in Australia only five, or be a Patrol Leader, a seconder, or have a job to do.  However everything you want to do needs to be communicated with so that others may know what it is and were you want to end up.

Remember the little Australian Brownie Guide who even small had a strong line of communication and great advocacy people.  She asked a question that people did not know the answer of and people wanted to find out the answer too.

Have a look at what has occurred on an international level with Brunai becoming a full member of Girl Guides.  A further challenge was to then get the Leaders working towards being on the international committees such as the Asia Pacific Region.

Facebook | Hazelwood and Churchill Girl Guide District

A great way of keeping people informed I was told was to create a social networking group for the District.  So here it is:  Facebook | Hazelwood and Churchill Girl Guide District.

So I’m asking for peoples email addresses.  Youth members I must speak to your primary car giver (like a mum or a dad} before your name goes on this invite list.

Clean Up Australia

The actual Clean Up Australia national cleaning day lands on what ever the 1st Sunday of March each year is.

Traditionally the Hazelwood and Churchill Girl Guides have concentrated their efforts either around the Glendonald Park [the playground and BBQ area] or the Hazelwood South Hall.

Over the years it was found that the youngest Guides got easily bored with the whole thing after about one half hour.  The older Guides got distracted after about one to one and a half hours.  So now there is a flip side to the service activity.

Coinsiding with the day is a Teddy Bears Picnic and Activities in the Park (about one hour worth).  Usually the Teddy Bears picnic starts at just after morning tea time.  And the Activities begin about three quarters of an hour later.  This way the youngest ones can go back to cleaning up the Park or just progressively make their way over to the Activities in the Park.

Needless to say to have these activities going on there needs to be Adult volunteers.  Please feel free to speak to the District Leader and ask for the necessary plans, paperwork and other District Team Members participation schedules.

Catching up on all these activities might be easier when you are invited to ‘meet’ with others with the District Facebook group.

Hazelwood and Churchill Girl Guide District communication issues.

Bloggs and social networking site set up for parents to view ongoing and updating of information.

Possibly will take years to actually get all the history of the District complety on line. So many hands make light work.  Voluntary contrabutions re getting the information onto the sites will mainly compromise of just typing onto word documents that are to be lifted onto blogs. Documents of course will be supplied by District Leader.

Or if you like there are other ways that you can help with these sites.

Not repeating past behavior.

At this point the president tabled the proposal the look on the president face when she realized just why I was there was not obvious to all. I’m so proud of myself. I did not outwardly ‘smirk’. But when the President glanced my way I did privately acknowledge to the President that was the reason I was there. Having in the past been on committies with the CDCA current president, and reacting at times to various statement the president possibly thought I would jump in boats and all at this point. I did not. Lessons are learned as time goes on.
