Teddy Bear Picnic [2010] was a washout

The Younger Guides were going to attend a Clean up Australia Day at the Glendonald Park, Churchill.

The Girl Guides were bringing one invited Teddy Bear and another friend could come along too.  With their Teddy Bear of Course.

Instead half an hour before the time to arrive the participants parents received a text stating that the morning had been cancelled. The drought braking rain was still just coming down. Again.Only this time there was a definite wind chill factor creeping into the air.

the Hazelwood and Churchill District Girl Guides operates with a general risk analysis re attendance.  Then there is the activity specific Risk analysis.  However I, the District Leader, overruled the desire  the Guides, their teddies and their friends to attend had.

There will be other activities with Teddies this year.

Teddy Bear Picnic is on again in 2011.  Same place at the Glendonald park at the BBQ and play ground area.  The Clean Up Australia Starts at 9am, Teddy Bears welcome too.  The Teddy Bear Picnic starts at 10 am for Morning tea.  There will be activities. And Hopefully sunshine at the time.

different table setting to create for meals

At times we have created ourselves, or sat at professionally done table settings for different events.

These events have been at :

  • buffet meals,
  • formal table settings,
  • Japanese table settings,
  • finger food
  • smorgess board
  • hostessing by the plate and requesting refreshment types.
  • picnics formal or impromtue,
  • around campfires
  • sitting on the ground at camp

There are basic Guide traditions and ettiquete that we have shown all the Guides over time. As the Guides learn one thing another is shown. From making the table settings to suit the occasion, to how to eat, pass food, cut meat, handle knives and forks, use fingers, wash hands, communicate, basic table manners, to hosting, serving and doing the dishes.

During the Black Saturday aftermarth these brave Teddies

During the 2009 Black Saturday Fire aftermath these brave teddies came out to play. The Guide unit had planned a Teddy Bears picnic to be occuring during the Fire time. No one could make it there on the day.

We photographed the bears coming, planned the food, sorted out the activites, worked out a root to take the teddy bears on and all this fell in a heap as others things were sorted out.

But the good news is that not one of these teddies was lost to the Fires.

Teddy Bears Picnic Food (2009)

Teddy Bears Picnic Food (2009)

We were going to all share some fairy bread (cut out teddy bear style), a teddy cake, some teddy biscuits with icing and sprinkles, and teddy shapes. With grapes, apples and strawberries, watermelon and kiwi fruit.

Our drink was going to be really cold water (and ice) and may be one cordial.

And we were also going to have teddy bear sweets … if they could be found.
