SERVICE FLASH THAT BEGAN IN 2009

This Service Flash has  three level [One, two and Three]

A Guide may start the flashes at the age of seven for flash 1, nine for flash 2 and 11 for flash 3.  Each different level has a period of service required over a varing amount of time.  For instance level 2 Service Flash has a  minimum of fifteen hours of ret over three months which works out at approximately 1% hours per week. . This can “include service to your “immediate and extended family, school and Guiding.

What needs to be recorded and signed off for is the date the Service began and concluded. What Service has been  provided Length of time given,.  Of course a Signature  is a must too.

The total hours given may be copied from Look Wide 2009 edition Page 83.  So what needs to be purchased and filled out is an up to date Look wide book.  Available at the Guide Shop.

patrol Activity through the Rac Wac’s.

Sometimes when the Rac Wac has been planned the idea was that:

Each patrol was to follow a different route to an appropriate destination ( accompanied by an adult with first aid kit and a car).  The year that we were to try this out everything was cancelled, delayed or rearranged due to the Fires that were / had been ranging around Churchill for nearly a month.

Heads Held High

Disabilities are many where people are concerned. How people react to their disabilities as well as how other people react and inter-react with those who have disabilities will change as knowledge and experience change both in our community, our daily situations and ourselves.

Guiding has many opportunities for both those with or without disabilities.  Learning about and exploring different aspects of disabilities helps all of us in our daily lives.  To this end always has been Service Badges that the members of guiding can work towards.  Enjoy finding out more about what and how these various badges have worked over the decades.  gain a wider knowledge of what other badges have entailed and what different generations of girl guides  have done towards earning these Service orientated badges.  Where possible follow ons have been hyper-linked for your interests.  Having a glimpes of what and where a simple service assistance has taken various Guides may help you better understand the Service components of being a Girl Guide in the Hazelwood and Churchill District Girl Guides.

Global Action Theme is known as GAT

Global Action that has been ”Changing the World’ has been happening through out Girl Guide and Girl Scout programs for over 100 years. Action themes may have occurred on a World Wide basis involving the Regions of Guiding working together through our World Association of Girl guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) right down to just an individual question,action or activity sparking off a patrol activity that may lead to an International activity.  Global Action keeps occurring on a multitude of levels within Guiding.

As the members get older sometimes they move away from Guiding as their career develops or interests evolve, or they may stay within the movement, but the essence of having experienced the GAT is there. Typically Leaders bring into Guide program what they themselves enjoyed as a Youth member as well as what their interests and life skills are now.

The essence of service is still service. Over the years many form of service have been built on.  Different badges have been provided. The Guides have worked towards these with different service awareness and methods utilized.

So how is the GAT so successful? Simple really.  WAGGGS influences to have a voice and to listen.  Then to speak out, look at root causes and do projects.  While this occurs the Guides are learning.  And the life skills and interest circles are quietly going around still into the next generations.

Teddy Bear Picnic 2009 program

In the lead up to the 2009 Teddy Bear picnic the Unit had included the following:

  • Making bear out of balloons
  • Inviting ther CFA to the Hazelwood South Hall
  • had made origami animals.
  • Coloured in pictures of bears.
  • Taking ID photo’s of the Teddy Bears attending.
  • making a fundraising “best Teddy Bear ” vote.
  • Planned the menu.
  • Practiced BBQing.
  • Made no bake biscuits to take along.
  • Read, then made up their own Bear Stories.
  • Learned Teddy Bear songs to sing while on the Rac Wac.
  • Included the event as part of the Rac Wac 2009.
  • Sewn Teddy Bear Puppets.
  • made cloths peg Teddys for the fridge.
  • Created invitations for the day – these went home pegged to the clothes peg Teddy.
  • Tried to organise the transport.
  • had worked on first aid (just in case)

Girl Guides learning to have a voice at 2009 formal meal planning

Through out all Guiding levels members have opinions.  These opinions may directly affect them, future generations, or help with a problem that is seen.  Having a voice leans a hand to many aspects of a Guide members life.  So having a voice for the things like the yearly formal meal is important.  The Guides are eating at this activity.  So the  ‘return’ on having a voice is something anticipated and experienced relatively quickly.
