Global Action Theme is known as GAT

Global Action that has been ”Changing the World’ has been happening through out Girl Guide and Girl Scout programs for over 100 years. Action themes may have occurred on a World Wide basis involving the Regions of Guiding working together through our World Association of Girl guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) right down to just an individual question, action or activity sparking off a patrol activity that may lead to an International activity.  Global Action keeps occurring on a multitude of levels within Guiding.

As the members get older sometimes they move away from Guiding as their career develops or interests evolve, or they may stay within the movement, but the essence of having experienced the GAT is there. Typically Leaders bring into Guide program what they themselves enjoyed as a Youth member as well as what their interests and life skills are now.

The essence of service is still service. Over the years many form of service have been built on.  Different badges have been provided. The Guides have worked towards these with different service awareness and methods utilized.

So how is the GAT so successful? Simple really.  WAGGGS influences to have a voice and to listen.  Then to speak out, look at root causes and do projects.  While this occurs the Guides are learning.  And the life skills and interest circles are quietly going around still into the next generations.

What is an apple basic

Sometime people are so familiar with things that they do not know one is the other.  That is a chicken lays an egg, which a shop then sells. That egg white comes from the inside of the egg!  Or in this case an apple may be made into apple juice and apple pulp then used in two different recipes.

So the Guides were shown that if they peel several apples, core them, chop them up into pieces (sizes as evenly as possible) then cook these pieces aver a heat sauce with a little water you actually end up with a mixture from which the stained juice is apple juice and the remaining stuff in the strainer is the apple puree.

Cool and use as soon as possible.

But what do you use it for. So over time they have been shown the following: Apple juice, Apple Puree, Salad dressing, Apple pancakes.

10 Nov 2009 letter from State Commissioner

Dear Person

As 2009 draws to a close, we look forward with anticipation to 2010, our Centenary year. We are thrilled that the Prime Minister of Australia, has declared 2010 to be the Year of the Girl Guide. This is superb recognition of the contribution that Girl Guides has made to society in Australia over the past century.

We were delighted to learn that Australia Post will be producing three stamps and that the Royal Australian Mint will produce a circulating coin to mark this momentous occasion.

There are many events planned for all of our members to take part in during 2010. A list of these dates can be found on the news page of our website.

We begin 2010 with the party of the century at the Australian Centenary Event (ACE) in January. Girl Guides Victoria is delighted to be hosting this international camp and welcoming over 2,400 members from around Australia and the world to our state. We look forward to meeting you at the camp.

On 22 February girls globally will celebrate Thinking Day with the theme “girls worldwide say together we can end extreme hunger and poverty”. We look forward to seeing more Units than ever participating in Clean Up Australia Day in March and National Tree Planting Day in August. Our girls have told us that the environment is an issue of importance and this is a way for girts to make a real contribution in this area.

There will be a number of large state events held for all members to celebrate our Centenary. 100 Downunder will be a fantastic day where girls can experience the Arts in many different ways. A State Sleepover for all girls will be held in August or September where girls from across the state can come together to party. We are looking forward to the very special event on 10 October 2010 at 10am, where all members are invited to Government House to renew their Promise along with all members around Australia at the same time.

Enclosed you will find your special edition 2010 Girl Guides Victoria diary with the official Centenary logo embossed on the cover to commemorate this exceptional event and to thank everyone who is involved in Guiding.

The Assistant State Commissioners and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and fantastic year in 2010.

Nov 10th 2009.

This afternoon the theme of friendship was laced throughout the program. The things that were included into today’s program were: Flag protocol, making choices (Self Governance), helping someone else (lending a hand (LAH) or service to fellow man), what have we done so far ( Self-governance) what are we going to do (Power-steering, Event-Management),

not being afraid of asking questions, (self confidence) making a combined decision, (peer decision making) doing something from the decision, Preparation for a Guides Own, Doing our own ‘Guide’s own’, Closing the evening with taps.

Linen inner sheet

My mum used to use these in the sixties when we went camping.  You got it .  She learned this trick from her mum.  And relearned it when she was a Girl Guide just after the second world war.  How did you guess.  Yes .. Grandma was a Girl Guide Leader too.
Linen inner sheet
A sheet inside your sleeping bag will add to your warmth and keep the inside of your sleeping bag clean. Sew an old flannelette sheet into a rectangular bag shape – leave the sides open near the top. A warmer, lighter sheet bag can be made from pure silk lining material. Buy double your length and stitch the sides.
