Hazelwood and Churchill (Victoria, Australia) local Girl Guide information noticeboard.

There are many things unknown

Today I received an email asking that this site be looked at.  Knowing that Guiding is not a political or religious organisation I have included the site so that you may make up your own minds.

Remembering that we are born without prejudice and with an inquiring mind.  Social borders and closed minds are introduced to each of us as we learn what makes us feel safe and be safe. To keep safe impenetrable walls are erected.  Fear is the removal of that safe feeling.

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a World Wide Organisation that aims at bringing out and developing the best within people..  Dealing with and affecting  many peoples lives in different cultural bands. Guiding has no cultural, faith, religious, class, financial, knowledge restrictions imposed. There is the essence of the original Promise and Law as set down by our founder . With this in mind there is a story of “Five little Girls…”

Islam

ISLAM What is Islam?

Islam is a complete way of life based on the teachings of the Holy Quran (which is the
divine word of God) and Hadith which are the recorded teachings and practices of
i                Islam’s final prophet, Mohammad. Anything outside these sources is not Islam.

What does Islam mean?

Islam means peace and total submission and obedience to Allah (God).

What does Allah mean?

The word ALLAH is an Arabic term which means the one and only God who is the ^-/ creator and provider of everything. The word Allah is also the personal name of God. It is a unique term because it does not have a plural and it is neither a male or female term since Allah is genderless. It is therefore a more accurate term to use than the term God.

What Is a Muslim?

A Muslim is a person who believes in the Islamic creed.

What are the five pillars of ISLAM?                                                          What do Muslims believe in?

\^

1.  The first pillar of Islam is the                                                                    1.  The oneness of God (Allah)
declaration of faith.

2.  The angels of Allah

2.  The second pillar of Islam is the

five compulsory daily prayers.                                                                     3.  The books of Allah

3.  The third pillar of Islam is known                                                               4. The messengers of Allah as zakat, which is annual alms.

5.  Predestination

4.  The fourth pillar of Islam is fasting during the month of Ramadan.   6.  Life after death.

5.  The fifth pillar of Islam is the                                                                     7.  The day of resurrection
pilgrimage to the Holy City of
Mecca.                                                                                                                8.  The day of judgement

What is the difference between the teachings of Islam and the practices of some Muslims?

Not every Muslim who claims to be a follower of Islam follows Islam in its pure form. A religion should therefore be judged by its teachings and not by people who claim to be its followers.

Global Action Theme is known as GAT

Global Action that has been ”Changing the World’ has been happening through out Girl Guide and Girl Scout programs for over 100 years. Action themes may have occurred on a World Wide basis involving the Regions of Guiding working together through our World Association of Girl guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) right down to just an individual question, action or activity sparking off a patrol activity that may lead to an International activity.  Global Action keeps occurring on a multitude of levels within Guiding.

As the members get older sometimes they move away from Guiding as their career develops or interests evolve, or they may stay within the movement, but the essence of having experienced the GAT is there. Typically Leaders bring into Guide program what they themselves enjoyed as a Youth member as well as what their interests and life skills are now.

The essence of service is still service. Over the years many form of service have been built on.  Different badges have been provided. The Guides have worked towards these with different service awareness and methods utilized.

So how is the GAT so successful? Simple really.  WAGGGS influences to have a voice and to listen.  Then to speak out, look at root causes and do projects.  While this occurs the Guides are learning.  And the life skills and interest circles are quietly going around still into the next generations.

C.F.A Come on down to Guides.

When planning 2009 Tuesday program the girls decided to invite the CFA people to Guides. Little knowing that every one here would be so affected by the near by fires over the last two weeks.

Here are some of the pictures of the CFA ladies who came to our Girl Guide meeting today. And we did not scare them off…. so they are coming back too.

Making Cubby houses

Over the years that we have had Guide meetings there have been many cubby’s made.

Some have used tables and chairs, others have had the climbing things outside. The materials for cubby making are in a box stored under the table near the office door. Big sheets of different varieties and colors.

All the building material (sheets, tables and chairs) to be dusted down, refolded up and put away before the Guides go home. Cleaning up is important in play as well. Learning to fold materials is a pre-requesite for storage of tents.

Sometimes this methods just is not right for the occasion and the Guides will concentrate on coping life’s lessons rather than build a cubby. So the wooden children’s cubby is used by all ages.

Doing things

Some of the girls who came to the disco and also the dance in the third term of 2009 have joined up and are becoming Girl Guides.

When you have fun and people see that things are happening then they think it is worth it. So they too give ‘it’ a go. Then when there is more people ‘doing things’ others still want to come.
