There are many things unknown

Today I received an email asking that this site be looked at.  Knowing that Guiding is not a political or religious organisation I have included the site so that you may make up your own minds.

Remembering that we are born without prejudice and with an inquiring mind.  Social borders and closed minds are introduced to each of us as we learn what makes us feel safe and be safe. To keep safe impenetrable walls are erected.  Fear is the removal of that safe feeling.

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a World Wide Organisation that aims at bringing out and developing the best within people..  Dealing with and affecting  many peoples lives in different cultural bands. Guiding has no cultural, faith, religious, class, financial, knowledge restrictions imposed. There is the essence of the original Promise and Law as set down by our founder . With this in mind there is a story of “Five little Girls…”

Islam

ISLAM What is Islam?

Islam is a complete way of life based on the teachings of the Holy Quran (which is the
divine word of God) and Hadith which are the recorded teachings and practices of
i                Islam’s final prophet, Mohammad. Anything outside these sources is not Islam.

What does Islam mean?

Islam means peace and total submission and obedience to Allah (God).

What does Allah mean?

The word ALLAH is an Arabic term which means the one and only God who is the ^-/ creator and provider of everything. The word Allah is also the personal name of God. It is a unique term because it does not have a plural and it is neither a male or female term since Allah is genderless. It is therefore a more accurate term to use than the term God.

What Is a Muslim?

A Muslim is a person who believes in the Islamic creed.

What are the five pillars of ISLAM?                                                          What do Muslims believe in?

\^

1.  The first pillar of Islam is the                                                                    1.  The oneness of God (Allah)
declaration of faith.

2.  The angels of Allah

2.  The second pillar of Islam is the

five compulsory daily prayers.                                                                     3.  The books of Allah

3.  The third pillar of Islam is known                                                               4. The messengers of Allah as zakat, which is annual alms.

5.  Predestination

4.  The fourth pillar of Islam is fasting during the month of Ramadan.   6.  Life after death.

5.  The fifth pillar of Islam is the                                                                     7.  The day of resurrection
pilgrimage to the Holy City of
Mecca.                                                                                                                8.  The day of judgement

What is the difference between the teachings of Islam and the practices of some Muslims?

Not every Muslim who claims to be a follower of Islam follows Islam in its pure form. A religion should therefore be judged by its teachings and not by people who claim to be its followers.

Attending ‘my’ place of Worship

It is my understanding that :
Guiding recognises that faith and worship is a very important factor in most peoples lives. Faith, belief and Worship enriches peoples lives in so many different ways.
Guiding itself is a non-religious, non-political organisation. This being said guiding supports those members who choose to attend places of worship and to express themselves in a respectful and diligent way that allows for them to respect and live with themselves, their family, community, their environment and the world around them.

Many ways of saying ‘Thank you’.

There are as many ways of saying ‘thank you’ as may be expressed. Some of the ways used are as simple as giving and sharing of thoughts, poems, letters, stories, prayers, graces, vespers, songs, actions, laughter, dance, mime, waves, energy release activities, passing a piece of something around for all to hold and savior, showing of pictures, describing events and things…. The list goes on.

Given time I think everyone should have a go at expressing every one of these communication methods.

Promise Ceremony

General discussion had on what is a “superior being”/ imposing ones views on another re their ‘Superior Being’ rather than giving and receiving of examples of same. Jess and Kira have decided not to reaffirm/ make their promise next time the Gipp’s Guides meet.

It was decided that rather than just make the Promise each would wait until they have a clearer idea of who/ what their ‘Superior Being’ is exactly. This is good as when their individual Promise is made they will make it then with a clarity of heart and mind.

By waiting  there will be time to really arrange a really memorable Promise ceremony for these members.

Sumars promise

Last meeting Samar made her Promise.  And then the thunder rumbled all around in one big clap as we all reaffirmed our Promise along with Samar as she made hers.  Amazingly this thunder overpowered all voices as we identified and voiced our own Superior Being.  ‘He’ had the last say.

An overview of the Olave Program , the Olave Registation and the syllabus for the Olave-Baden Powell Award was handed out.

There’s going to be a lot happening over the next few years once the Gipps Guides gets under way.
